The project was included in the "Best Russian Project 2023–2025" almanac and won the 11th season of the ADDAWARDS 2025 International Independent Award for Architects, Designers and Developers in the Business Interiors category.
In 2020, KPLN Architects acquired an abandoned building dating from 1892 — a regional cultural heritage site, the "Administrative Building of the Alekseevskaya Pumping Station with the chief engineer's apartment, office and telephone exchange" — and carefully restored it, turning it into the bureau's own headquarters. The mansion of 1,240 m² combines historic heritage with modern office solutions and houses a team of 200 employees.
The building was constructed in 1892 in the brick style to a design by architect Maxim Gepener and engineers Nikolay Zimin and Konstantin Dunker. The architects approached the restoration as an archaeological study: before starting work, they commissioned archival records and a historical report, and then uncovered, studied and preserved each element layer by layer.
Restored historic elements
A Dutch tiled stove-fireplace with brass elements — in the former chief engineer's office, now the bureau's leadership office.
Historic parquet flooring of four wood species, discovered under layers of linoleum.
Cast-iron stair railings with intricate ornament.
Ceiling stucco and Monier vaults.
A 19th-century ventilation system — cleaned and put back into operation.
Historic hook fasteners on wooden window frames.
Restoration continues: a workspace is being created in the attic, where the preserved roof truss system will become part of the interior, and there are plans to restore the wooden terrace lost in the early 20th century.
