Arkhyz Airport is a new airport project in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Russia. KPLN Architects developed the architectural concept, interior design, and wayfinding design. The project was named a finalist at the World Architecture Festival 2026 in the Infrastructure category and won the WAFX 2026 award in the Building Technology category.
The airport’s architecture draws inspiration from the natural landscape of the Caucasus. The terminal’s elongated triangular volume, with rounded corners, resembles a fir seed — a symbol of new life and growth.
The green roof and internal courtyard atrium further develop the idea of integrating the building into its natural surroundings. The terminal is designed to become part of the surrounding landscape and offer visitors their first impression of the region.
Construction of Arkhyz Airport is scheduled for completion in 2029.
